about
This is another song I wrote for my son, Nathan. I knew from a young age that he would eventually move to New York. He loved the city and everything it held for a young person. I wrote this imagining what he might feel like as he was was prepping for his move for college. The lyrics are from his perspective, faced with the reality of leaving home to live by himself in the city. I was going to miss him terribly. He lived there for about 7 years, finishing his undergrad and graduate degrees. I am so damn proud of him. He is brilliant, centered and has an incredibly kind heart. I love him dearly and this song is for my Dear Boy, Nathan. (Yes, the pun about the other song I wrote about him is intentional!)
lyrics
I want to stay right here, but it's time to go,
I've enjoyed every moment, I want you to know.
But suddenly, it's very late, and tomorrow won't wait,
Tomorrow's always been selfish that way.
CHORUS:
Here comes the last train tonight,
Here comes the last train tonight.
If I could carve a moment in stone, I'd choose this moment now,
Forever at your side, I'd choose this moment now.
But I'm no Michelangelo, and the signs point for me to go,
But I've loved every minute, I want you to know.
CHORUS:
BRIDGE:
Growing up, I don't want to grow up and away from you,
Growing up, no one even asked me if I wanted to.
I want to stay right here, but it's time to go,
I've enjoyed every moment, I want you to know.
But suddenly, it's very late, and tomorrow won't wait,
Tomorrow's always been selfish that way.
CHORUS: x 4
