about
Another new song! This one is about traveling, a topic which most musicians can relate to. I have travelled a great deal in my life. I have seen much of the world and our beautiful country. Still, I dislike traveling a great deal. I love reaching the destinations and exploring new locations, but REALLY DISLIKE the actual act of moving place to place. I become very wound up and grouchy. I am not a great companion during the movement parts of the process. That said, parts of this song are based on things that happened while traveling. The bridge of the song is a true story. We had played in Pittsburgh on a Thursday and were playing in DC on Friday and Saturday. We stayed at a cheap motel near the interstate. The trucks were incredibly loud as they passed. I was also unfortunate in receiving a room located directly beneath a couple who were enjoying the pleasure of each other's company at a volume only the Gods could achieve. I did not sleep the entire night. Still, we survived to play the shows in DC that went over very well. This song is dedicated to my wife, Eliska. No matter where I am, near or far, her heart always brings me home. I hope you enjoy the song. Just don't rent a room too close to the interstate!
lyrics
I've been driving all night,
Living on coffee and talk show noise on the radio.
And I've been getting by,
For three weeks and two days with just your voice on the telephone.
But now the sun is coming up,
It's coming over the rise.
CHORUS:
It leads me home, home, home.
It leads me home, home, home.
Too much time on my own,
And I start drifting, I shift the wheel from the travelled road.
And then I'm lost and roam,
Winding through some side road, to everywhere that I shouldn't go.
I've wasted so many miles,
Trying to stay between the lines.
CHORUS:
BRIDGE:
Coffee jacked, my motor humming,
DJ fried, I'm almost numb, connected to the blacktop by a thread.
Motel sleep is second rate, there's thunder from the interstate,
And some honeymooners howling overhead.
I've been driving all night,
Been talking to the Saints, to keep me awake, sometimes they ride along.
And bring me peace of mind,
"Mary, help me steer, keep the highway clear for just a couple of miles more."
Through every lonely night,
And every mile behind.
CHORUS:
