about
This song was literally born from a dream I had. I dreamed I was a bird with a tremendous wingspan. My initial moment of flight was through my bedroom window to the outdoors. The dream moved quickly to me soaring high above the Kanawha River in my hometown, Charleston, WV, one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. Finally I dreamed I was flying over the Gulf of Mexico, watching the sun descend into the ocean. It was a beautiful dream. I wrote this song about an hour after I woke, hopefully capturing the serenity and moments of awe I felt. If you listen closely at the end of the last chorus, you can hear my dog, Saber, bark twice. He was in perfect time with the music, so I left it in the recording!
lyrics
The window is open, I drift outside,
Above the world and its content, spread my wings and fly.
A beautiful morning, a beautiful sky,
I fill my eyes, fill my eyes.
Over my hometown, the forest green,
The river dances in the sunlight, sequined and shimmering.
The mountains extending, their reach toward the sky,
I fill my eyes, fill my eyes.
There's a golden bird, on a Gulf wind run,
Follows the river to the ocean, to where the ocean meets the sun,
A beautiful morning, a beautiful sky,
I fill my eyes, fill my eyes.
