about
I had been spending time in the Southwestern desert around the period I wrote this. The wide open spaces and sense of isolation and melancholy influenced the meditative feel of the song. If you listen closely during the lead break, you can hear me muttering "Stop," to my dog, Saber. He came into the studio and started nudging my knee to pet him while I was recording the slide guitar. He was a hilarious, beautiful companion and I miss him dearly.
lyrics
It's just this dirty car and me,
Headed to nowhere.
Steady on an open road,
Headed to nowhere.
No place to come from,
No particular place to go.
CHORUS:
I drive, I move along,
I drive, I stay gone.
No strings, no ties,
And no goodbyes.
I learned to lose myself,
A long time ago.
I learned to move like wind through tall grass,
A long time ago.
Some days are lonely,
But that feeling, it slips before long.
CHORUS:
BRIDGE:
There's no tomorrow,
Or yesterday.
There's only today, there's only today,
Heading my way.
Some day I'll go back home,
And find myself again,
Makes amends with everything I left behind,
And find myself again.
If I just keep moving,
Every trace of me will disappear.
